The unit is fully equipped with advanced life-support equipment designed to support the specialised care essential for the recovery of the difficult cases that are admitted to the ICU. The unit is primarily managed by our resident anaesthetist, though patient management is collaboratively undertaken by both medical and surgical doctors, depending on the needs of the patient. To meet the increased monitoring and care needed for ICU patients, the nurse to patient ratio within the ICU is maintained at 1:1; with a specialist on-call 24 hours a day. Critical Care Nurses are also specially trained to provide additional nursing care and interventions as needed. Patients admitted to the ICU often required support for two or more organs, or require mechanical ventilation.
